Tinubu Orders Timely Fund Release for Regional Commissions, Warns Against White Elephants
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to ensure timely release of accruable funds to regional development commissions, warning that white elephant projects will no longer be tolerated.

Federal policy enforcement on sub-national capital utilization tightened following President Tinubu’s directive mandating unhindered and prompt release of financial allocations to regional development bodies. Delivering the mandate via SGF George Akume at the inaugural North Central Stakeholders Development Summit in Abuja, the administration signaled that future capital disbursements are strictly tied to high-impact economic and industrial deliverables.
Emphasizing a clean break from legacy project dormancy, the Presidency noted that regional commissions must deploy funds toward infrastructure that measurably unlocks localized production and employment scaling. Stakeholders across central economic corridors view the directive as a vital accountability mechanism to align regional intervention boards with macro-fiscal reform targets.
