The charges stem from an incident on May 28, 2026, when Sterling was behind the wheel of a £270,000 Lamborghini Urus during morning rush hour on the M25 and M3 motorways in Hampshire. Prosecutor Simon Jones detailed to the court that multiple witnesses reported "absolutely horrendous" driving, with motorists expressing deep concern that the car's erratic movements including swerving between lanes and inhaling from a balloon while driving could cause fatal accidents.
Dashcam and police body-worn footage played in court revealed that Sterling’s vehicle eventually veered off the A327 near the Minley interchange, crashing into roadside infrastructure and blowing out all four tires. When officers arrived, Sterling was found seated in the passenger seat with two canisters of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) on his lap.
